Target Information
The hnRNP K gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs), which are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While all hnRNPs are nuclear, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. hnRNP K is located in the nucleoplasm and contains three KH RNA-binding domains. It binds strongly to poly(C) sequences and is believed to play a role in cell cycle progression. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, though not all are fully characterized.
