Product Specific Information

This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).
This antibody has specificity for Human CD83.

Target Information

CD83 is a 40–45 kDa glycoprotein expressed by peripheral blood dendritic cells. Peripheral lymphocytes can express low levels of CD83 after stimulation with agents such as Con A or PHA.
In immunohistology, CD83 is strongly expressed by interfollicular interdigitating reticulum cells and weakly by cells within germinal centers. It is also expressed by Langerhans cells in the skin.

The CD83 antigen is a 186-amino-acid single-chain glycoprotein, a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, consisting of:

  • An extracellular V-type Ig-like domain
  • A transmembrane region
  • A short 40-amino-acid cytoplasmic tail

CD83 undergoes extensive post-translational glycosylation, resulting in a molecular weight approximately twice that of the core protein.
CD83⁺ cells exhibit a unique surface phenotype distinct from T, B, NK, or myelomonocytic cells, and coexpress high levels of MHC class II molecules. They also express T cell markers (CD2, CD5), B cell markers (CD40, CD78), myeloid markers (CD13, CD33, CD36), cytokine receptors, and other surface molecules.

Diseases associated with CD83 dysfunction include plague and Rift Valley Fever.
