Target Information
CHEK1 (CHK1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase involved in maintaining DNA integrity. It acts as a key mediator in the DNA damage-induced checkpoint network and helps ensure genomic stability under genotoxic stress.
When CHK1 is inhibited, p53-deficient cancer cells undergo mitotic catastrophe and apoptosis, while normal cells remain arrested in the G1 phase. Therefore, CHK1 is considered an attractive therapeutic target for cancer treatment, particularly since about 50% of human cancers are p53-deficient.
