Target Information
This intronless gene encodes a 70 kDa heat shock protein, a member of the HSP70 family. It stabilizes existing proteins against aggregation and assists in folding newly translated proteins in the cytosol and organelles. It also participates in the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway via interaction with AU-rich element RNA-binding protein 1. The gene is located in the MHC class III region, clustered with two related genes encoding similar proteins.
