Target Information

The ACTL7A gene encodes a member of the actin-related protein (ARP) family, sharing significant sequence identity with conventional actins. Both actins and ARPs possess an actin fold, an ATP-binding cleft common to these proteins. ARPs are involved in various cellular processes including vesicular transport, spindle orientation, nuclear migration, and chromatin remodeling.
ACTL7A and its related gene ACTL7B are intronless and located approximately 4 kb apart in a head-to-head orientation within the familial dysautonomia candidate region on chromosome 9q31. Although expressed in many adult tissues, ACTL7A’s precise function remains unclear, and it is not believed to contribute to dysautonomia pathogenesis.
