CIS 단백질은 SH2 도메인과 SOCS box 도메인을 포함하며, cytokine-induced STAT inhibitor (CIS) 또는 suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. 이 단백질은 사이토카인 신호 전달의 음성 조절자로 작용하며, IL2, IL3, GM-CSF, EPO 등에 의해 조혈세포에서 발현이 유도됩니다. 또한, proteasome 매개 분해를 통해 erythropoietin receptor의 불활성화에 관여합니다. 다양한 전사체 변이체가 보고되어 있습니다.
