Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the bone morphogenetic protein family and the TGF-beta superfamily. These proteins contain a polybasic proteolytic processing site, which is cleaved to produce a mature protein with seven conserved cysteine residues. Members of this family regulate cell growth and differentiation in embryonic and adult tissues. This gene encodes a secreted protein that negatively regulates skeletal muscle growth.
