Target Information
MCL1 (Myeloid cell leukemia-1) belongs to the Bcl-2 family and is involved in cell differentiation and maintenance of viability, but not proliferation. Isoform 1 inhibits apoptosis, while isoform 2 promotes it. The C-terminal of MCL1 shares significant sequence homology with Bcl-2. Expression increases in ML-1 cells exposed to DNA-damaging agents such as ionizing or UV radiation and alkylating drugs. MCL1 complements Bcl-2 expression during differentiation and promotes cell viability under apoptotic conditions. It may neutralize pro-apoptotic members of the Bcl-2 family such as Bim or Bak. MCL1 is expressed in multiple cell types and is essential for embryogenesis and lymphocyte development. Two isoforms exist: MCL1L (anti-apoptotic) and MCL1S (pro-apoptotic).
