Target Information
Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They are involved in respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid.
CA1, located on chromosome 8 along with CA2 and CA3, encodes a cytosolic protein found predominantly in erythrocytes. Multiple alternatively spliced variants and transcript variants with alternative polyA sites have been reported.
