Target Information
Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are a family of enzymes important in detoxification by catalyzing the conjugation of hydrophobic and electrophilic compounds with reduced glutathione. Based on biochemical, immunologic, and structural properties, soluble GSTs are categorized into four main classes: alpha, mu, pi, and theta.
This GST family member (GSTP1) is a polymorphic gene encoding functionally distinct variants involved in xenobiotic metabolism and may influence susceptibility to cancer and other diseases.
