Target Information
F-Box and WD Repeat Domain Containing 7 (FBXW7) is a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif called the F-box. These proteins form one of the four subunits of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex SCFs (SKP1-cullin-F-box), which function in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
FBXW7 belongs to the Fbws class, containing WD-40 domains and seven tandem WD40 repeats. It binds directly to cyclin E and likely targets it for ubiquitin-mediated degradation.
Mutations in this gene have been found in ovarian and breast cancer cell lines, suggesting a role in cancer pathogenesis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
