Target Information
C/EBP alpha regulates gene expression in various tissues including liver, adipose, lung, and intestine. It binds DNA through a bipartite structural motif where two protein chains dimerize via amphipathic alpha helices termed the leucine zipper. The basic polypeptide regions form DNA contact surfaces. C/EBP alpha functions mainly in terminally differentiated, growth-arrested cells. Other family members include C/EBP beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon, which share similar DNA-binding properties. C/EBP beta and delta can form heterodimers with each other and with C/EBP alpha.
