Target Information

The preB cell receptor, CD179b, is expressed on the surface of proB and preB cells, where it mediates signals for proliferation and differentiation from the proB to the preB stage. It also regulates allelic exclusion at the Ig heavy chain locus and promotes Ig light chain rearrangements. CD179b encodes one of the surrogate light chain subunits and belongs to the immunoglobulin gene superfamily. Mutations in this gene can lead to B cell deficiency and agammaglobulinemia, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by low or absent antibody production. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
