MSH5는 DNA 불일치 수선(DNA mismatch repair) 및 감수분열 재조합 과정에 관여하는 mutS 단백질 패밀리의 구성원입니다. 이 단백질은 효모(Saccharomyces cerevisiae)의 유사 단백질과 유사하며, 감수분열 중 염색체의 정확한 분리 및 교차에 참여합니다. MSH5는 mutS homolog 4와 이합체를 형성하며, 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 네 가지 전사체 변이체가 생성되어 세 가지 이소폼을 암호화합니다.
