Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a component of the exocyst complex, a multiprotein assembly essential for targeting exocytic vesicles to specific docking sites on the plasma membrane. Although best characterized in yeast, the exocyst complex and its functions are highly conserved in higher eukaryotes. At least eight components, including EXOC3, interact with actin cytoskeletal remodeling and vesicle transport machinery. This complex is crucial for the biogenesis of epithelial cell surface polarity.
