Target Information
The protein encoded by the CCR9 gene belongs to the beta chemokine receptor family and is predicted to be a seven-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor. Chemokines and their receptors regulate thymocyte migration and maturation under both normal and inflammatory conditions. The specific ligand for CCR9 is CCL25. This gene is differentially expressed in T lymphocytes of the small intestine and colon, suggesting a role in thymocyte recruitment and immune specialization within different gastrointestinal regions. The gene is located within the chemokine receptor gene cluster region and has two alternatively spliced transcript variants.
