• Specificity Comments:
  ERG (ETS-related gene) is a proto-oncogene and a member of the ETS family of transcription factors. It encodes a nuclear protein involved in hematopoietic and endothelial development. ERG is constitutively expressed in endothelial cells of blood and lymphatic vessels and in bone marrow stem cells. It is expressed in most endothelial neoplasms (e.g., hemangioendothelioma, angiosarcoma, Kaposi sarcoma) and is overexpressed due to gene rearrangement in several tumor types, including prostate adenocarcinoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumor, synovial sarcoma, meningioma, epithelioid sarcoma, malignant rhabdoid tumor, acute myeloid leukemia, and others.
  ERG serves as a sensitive and specific marker for endothelial differentiation and is highly specific for prostate carcinoma, with moderate sensitivity. The nuclear localization simplifies interpretation and enables double staining with cytoplasmic markers such as podoplanin.
