Target Information

Non-catalytic component of the RNA exosome complex which has 3′→5′ exoribonuclease activity and participates in multiple RNA processing and degradation events.
In the nucleus, it is involved in maturation of stable RNA species (rRNA, snRNA, snoRNA), elimination of RNA processing by-products and non-coding pervasive transcripts, and degradation of defective mRNAs to prevent their cytoplasmic export.
It may also play a role in Ig class switch recombination (CSR) and somatic hypermutation (SHM).
In the cytoplasm, it contributes to mRNA turnover, degradation of AU-rich element-containing mRNAs, and RNA surveillance pathways, including histone mRNA degradation.
The catalytic inactive RNA exosome core complex (Exo-9) serves as a scaffold for RNA binding and interaction with catalytic subunits and accessory proteins.
