Target Information

ITGB1 (Integrin Subunit Beta 1, CD29) is a 110 kDa cell surface glycoprotein broadly expressed in various cell types including all leukocytes. It forms non-covalent heterodimers with multiple alpha chains (α1–α6), determining the binding properties of β1 (VLA) integrins. ITGB1 acts as a cell adhesion molecule on platelets and as part of complexes binding to extracellular matrix proteins.

Decreased ITGB1 expression is associated with multidrug resistance in tumor cells. It plays a critical role in immune cell trafficking, tissue damage regulation, and inflammatory processes such as inflammatory bowel disease. ITGB1 also mediates cytokine secretion in human airway smooth muscle via fibronectin and collagen interactions. Two major isoforms, β1A and β1D, show tissue-specific distribution—β1A in most tissues and β1D in cardiac and skeletal muscle.
