Target Information
MPP5 (Membrane Protein, Palmitoylated 5) is essential for neurogenesis and hematopoiesis. It plays a key role in establishing and maintaining cell polarity in epithelial cells and neurons. MPP5 is a component of the Par-3 complex, contributing to tight junction maintenance in epithelial cells.
Mutations in MPP5 are linked to severe neurological impairments such as global developmental delay (GDD) and behavioral changes. In animal models, MPP5 is involved in the early differentiation of multipotent progenitors and supports long-term lineage-specific contributions, mainly in myeloid and lymphoid cells. Variants of MPP5 disrupt normal cellular function, leading to developmental and functional abnormalities.
