Target Information
Chromosome 1 is the largest human chromosome, spanning about 260 million base pairs and comprising approximately 8% of the human genome. It contains around 3,000 genes, many of which are associated with various diseases such as Hutchinson-Gilford progeria (LMNA gene), familial adenomatous polyposis (MUTYH gene), Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Gaucher disease, and Usher syndrome.
A breakpoint in 1q disrupts the DISC1 gene, linked to schizophrenia. Aberrations in chromosome 1 are also found in cancers including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma, and multiple myeloma.
The CYP4X1 gene product has been provisionally designated CYP4X1 pending further characterization.
