Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of two complexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator. The 20S core consists of four rings with 28 non-identical subunits—two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits. The 19S regulator includes a base with six ATPase and two non-ATPase subunits, and a lid containing up to ten non-ATPase subunits. Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome variant is essential for processing class I MHC peptides. The PSMD3 gene encodes one of the non-ATPase subunits of the 19S regulator lid.
