SOX2는 SRY-related HMG-box (SOX) 전사인자 패밀리에 속하는 단일 엑손 유전자로, 배아 발달과 세포 운명 결정에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
SOX2 단백질은 중추신경계의 줄기세포 유지에 필수적이며, 위 조직에서의 유전자 발현 조절에도 관여합니다.
SOX2 유전자는 SOX2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT)라는 다른 유전자의 인트론 내에 위치하며, 다른 단백질과 복합체를 형성하여 전사 활성화 인자로 작용할 수 있습니다.
SOX2 유전자의 돌연변이는 양측 무안구증, 시신경 형성 저하, 증후성 소안구증 등과 관련이 있습니다.
