The Voltage-Dependent Anion Channel (VDAC) is a small, abundant protein of the outer mitochondrial membrane found in all eukaryotic organisms. It forms a voltage-gated pore in lipid bilayers and serves as a binding site for metabolic enzymes such as hexokinase and glycerol kinase, contributing to metabolic regulation. VDAC3 specifically mediates the translocation of adenine nucleotides through the outer membrane.
