Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and signaling. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to link cell adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, participating in multiple signaling pathways including Wnt/Wingless. It plays a key role in morphogenesis, cell proliferation, and tumorigenesis, with expression in various epithelial and hair follicle cells. Dysregulation of beta-catenin has been implicated in pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal, ovarian, and other solid tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors to promote transcription of genes such as cyclin D and c-myc.
