Target Information
Angiopoietins are members of the vascular endothelial growth factor family and are growth factors largely specific to vascular endothelium. Angiopoietin-1, -2, and -4 participate in blood vessel formation. The protein encoded by this gene (ANGPTL2) is widely expressed in adult tissues, with the highest mRNA levels in highly vascularized tissues. It is a secretory protein that does not act as an endothelial cell mitogen in vitro.
