Target Information

Antigen stimulation of immune cells triggers Ca²⁺ entry through Ca²⁺ release-activated Ca²⁺ (CRAC) channels. ORAI2 is one of two mammalian homologs to ORAI1, a four-transmembrane spanning protein essential for CRAC channel function. ORAI2 acts as a selective Ca²⁺ plasma membrane channel gated through interactions with STIM1, the store-activated endoplasmic reticulum Ca²⁺ sensor, although with lower efficacy than ORAI1.
