The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the choline/ethanolamine kinase family, catalyzing the first step of phosphatidylethanolamine (PtdEtn) biosynthesis via the cytidine diphosphate (CDP) ethanolamine pathway. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
