Product Specific Information

BMS127 recognizes natural and recombinant human IL-1 beta.
IL-1β is a pro-inflammatory cytokine expressed by multiple cell types including macrophages, NK cells, monocytes, and neutrophils. It belongs to the IL-1 family cluster.
Associated activities include induction of Prostaglandin E2 by synovial cells and release of collagenase, resulting in cartilage destruction and bone resorption.

Target Information

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as an inactive 31 kDa pro-form that accumulates in the cytosol and is cleaved into an active 17 kDa form by caspase-1 following inflammasome activation.
IL-1β lacks a signal sequence for the classical ER/Golgi pathway and is secreted via an alternative mechanism. It signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1α.
IL-1β activity can be inhibited by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA), which competitively blocks receptor binding.
It plays a key role in innate immune defense and acute-phase responses to infection and injury. Elevated IL-1β levels are associated with chronic inflammatory conditions, and neutralizing antibodies may have therapeutic potential.
