Target Information
Adiponectin is a protein hormone secreted exclusively by adipocytes that regulates lipid and glucose metabolism. It plays a role in homeostasis and obesity, with decreased levels associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. In mice, adiponectin improves insulin signaling by activating AMP kinase and PPAR-alpha, enhancing fatty acid transport and oxidation in skeletal muscle, thereby reducing intramyocellular lipid levels and improving insulin sensitivity.
