Target Information
The munc-18 interacting protein (Mint) family comprises adaptor proteins involved in membrane transport and organization. In mammals, three isoforms exist: Mint1, Mint2, and Mint3.
Mint1 and Mint2 are brain-specific and bind Munc18, a key component of synaptic vesicle fusion machinery. Mint3, ubiquitously expressed, interacts with Alzheimer’s Disease-related amyloid precursor protein (APP) via PTB and PDZ domains, linking APP to transport machinery and influencing its metabolism. Abnormal APP metabolism is associated with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
