Target Information
E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin belonging to the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It is a cell–cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. Mutations in the CDH1 gene, which encodes E-Cadherin, are associated with various cancers including gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss or reduction of E-Cadherin expression correlates with increased tumor invasion and metastasis. The ectodomain mediates bacterial adhesion, while the cytoplasmic domain is essential for internalization. E-Cadherin plays a key role in maintaining epithelial tissue integrity and architecture.
