Target Information
The exact function of this gene is not known; however, its encoded product is highly similar to purine-rich element binding protein A. This DNA-binding protein preferentially binds to single-stranded purine-rich elements (PUR) and is implicated in the regulation of DNA replication and transcription.
PURG is located near the Werner syndrome gene but on the opposite strand of chromosome 8p11. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
