Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. Purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
Complement component 4 binding protein (C4bp) exists in three variants composed of alpha and beta chains.
- The predominant form is a 570 kDa complex of 7 alpha chains and 1 beta chain.
- Other complexes include a 530 kDa homoheptamer of alpha chains or a 500 kDa complex of 6 alpha chains and 1 beta chain.
C4bp regulates activation of the classical complement pathway and acts as a cofactor for C3b/C4b inactivation, facilitating proteolytic cleavage of C4b and C3b. It also accelerates degradation of the C4bC2a complex (C3 convertase) by dissociating fragment C2a. Both alpha and beta chains interact with anticoagulant protein S, with C4bp alpha binding protein S. C4bp is expressed in blood serum.
