Target Information
SYNPO2 (also known as myopodin) is a member of the synaptopodin family containing one PPXY motif and multiple PXXP motifs. It colocalizes with alpha-actinin and is found at the Z-disc. Under stress conditions, it translocates to the nucleus, suggesting a role in signaling pathways in addition to structural functions.
SYNPO2 binds to calmodulin, alpha-actinin, and smooth muscle myosin, stimulating actin polymerization in a calmodulin-dependent manner. Deletion or down-regulation of SYNPO2 has been linked to altered invasiveness of prostate cancer cells.
