Target Information
Tryptases comprise a family of trypsin-like serine proteases belonging to the peptidase family S1. They are enzymatically active only as heparin-stabilized tetramers and resistant to all known endogenous proteinase inhibitors. Several tryptase genes are clustered on chromosome 16p13.3 and share conserved 3' UTR sequences and tandem repeats at the 5' flank and 3' UTR, thought to regulate mRNA stability. Although TPSD1 was once considered a pseudogene, it is now recognized as a functional gene encoding a protein. Tryptases are implicated in asthma and other allergic and inflammatory disorders.
