Target Information
Galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins involved in cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. The protein encoded by this gene is an S-type lectin, overexpressed in Hodgkin’s disease tissue. It may participate in interactions between Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg cells and surrounding cells, potentially contributing to disease pathogenesis and associated immunodeficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
