Target Information

This receptor is controlled by G proteins. Inward rectifier potassium channels preferentially allow potassium influx into the cell. Voltage dependence is regulated by extracellular potassium concentration; increased external potassium shifts channel opening to more positive voltages. Inward rectification arises from blockage of outward current by internal magnesium and can be inhibited by extracellular barium.
KCNJ11 is a subunit of ATP-sensitive potassium channels (KATP) and forms cardiac and smooth muscle-type KATP channels with ABCC9. KCNJ11 forms the channel pore, while ABCC9 is required for activation and regulation.
