Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily, which transports various molecules across cellular membranes. It is part of the MRP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance. This protein modulates ATP-sensitive potassium channels and insulin release. Mutations or deficiencies are linked to hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia of infancy and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus type II. Alternative splicing has been observed, but transcript variants are not fully described.
