Target Information

Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes that are stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APC). Activated T cells express receptors such as PD-1 (also known as PDCD-1) that mediate inhibitory signals from APCs.
PD-1 binds two related ligands, PDL-1 and PDL-2. Upon binding, PD-1 generates inhibitory signals that suppress immune activation in the absence of danger signals (e.g., LPS or pathogen-associated molecules).
PD-1 deficiency in mice leads to hyperactivated immune responses and autoimmune diseases.
Despite its predicted molecular weight, PD-1 often migrates at a higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE.
