Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a novel member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally at the site of synthesis. LIPG modulates lipoprotein metabolism; overexpression reduces HDL cholesterol, while deficiency elevates HDL levels. It exhibits phospholipase activity and plays roles in lipid metabolism and vascular biology. As a member of the TG lipase family, LIPG possesses a lid region conferring substrate specificity. It acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes HDL, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in fat digestion, and binds to heparin.
