This antibody is predicted to react with porcine, non-human primate, and rabbit based on sequence homology.
Target Information
The tumor suppressor protein p53 is a sequence-specific transcription factor activated by cellular stress. It mediates cell cycle arrest or apoptosis in response to DNA damage or nutrient deprivation. p53 up-regulates transcription of genes such as p21waf1, contributing to G1 or G2/M arrest.
Phosphorylation at Ser15 is crucial for activation and stabilization, while Ser392 phosphorylation is associated with tumor formation. Mutations in TP53 are common in human cancers and lead to loss of tumor suppressor activity.
p53 is expressed at low levels in normal cells but elevated in transformed cell lines, contributing to malignancy. It is also linked to aging, oxidative stress, and cognitive function through effects on LTP (long-term potentiation).
