MAGEA4는 MAGEA 유전자 패밀리에 속하며, 이 패밀리의 단백질들은 서로 50~80%의 서열 유사성을 가집니다.
MAGEA 유전자의 프로모터와 첫 번째 엑손은 다양성을 보여, 동일한 기능이 서로 다른 전사 조절 하에 발현될 수 있게 합니다.
이 유전자들은 염색체 위치 Xq28에 군집되어 있으며, 일부 유전 질환(예: dyskeratosis congenita)과 관련이 있습니다.
