Target Information
ASAP1, also known as Development and differentiation enhancing factor 1, is a protein with two ANK repeats, an Arf-GAP domain, a PH domain, and a SH3 domain. ASAP1 forms homodimers and interacts with SRC and CRK. Its activity is stimulated by phosphatidylinositol 4,5-biphosphate (PIP2). It exhibits GTPase-activating protein activity for ARF1 and ARF5, and lesser activity toward ARF6. ASAP1 is involved in coordinating membrane trafficking with cell growth or actin cytoskeleton remodeling through interactions with SRC and PIP2. It may function as a signal transduction protein in fibroblast differentiation into adipocytes and possibly other cell types. ASAP1 is widely expressed across tissues and is identified as a proto-oncogene associated with invasive breast cancer and other malignant tumors such as uveal melanomas.
