Target Information
The protein encoded by the COPS6 gene is one of the eight subunits of the COP9 signalosome, a highly conserved protein complex that functions as an important regulator in multiple signaling pathways.
The structure and function of COP9 signalosome is similar to that of the 19S regulatory particle of the 26S proteasome.
COP9 signalosome interacts with SCF-type E3 ubiquitin ligases and acts as a positive regulator of these ligases.
This protein belongs to the translation initiation factor 3 superfamily and is involved in cell cycle regulation. It is also likely to serve as a cellular cofactor for the HIV-1 accessory gene product Vpr.
