The CEP170 protein is a component of the centrosome, a non-membraneous organelle that serves as the major microtubule-organizing center in animal cells.
- During interphase, it localizes to sub-distal appendages of mature centrioles.
- During mitosis, it associates with spindle microtubules near the centrosomes.
- It interacts with and is phosphorylated by polo-like kinase 1.
- Plays a role in maintaining microtubule organization and cell morphology.
- The human genome includes a putative transcribed pseudogene.
- Several alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, with some full-length forms yet undetermined.
