Target Information
CD16 encodes a receptor that recognizes the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G and participates in immune complex clearance, antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity, and modulation of viral infections.
The gene FCGR3A shares high similarity with FCGR3B, both located on chromosome 1.
- FCGR3A: Expressed on NK cells, membrane-anchored via transmembrane peptide
- FCGR3B: Expressed on neutrophils, anchored via phosphatidylinositol linkage
Mutations in FCGR3A are associated with Immunodeficiency 20 and increased susceptibility to viral infections, systemic lupus erythematosus, and alloimmune neonatal neutropenia.
Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
