Target Information
SAGA (Spt-Ada-Gcn5 histone acetyltransferase complex) is a histone acetylase complex with Gcn5p as the catalytic subunit. It functions alongside the fundamental transcription factor TFIID, which has Taf1p as its catalyst subunit.
SAGA and TFIID have distinct roles in transcription regulation for housekeeping and stress response genes.
SAGA is a large protein complex composed of Ada protein group (5 kinds), TBP-related protein group (4 kinds), TAF protein group (5 kinds), and other associated proteins (>6 kinds).
Its molecular functions include histone modification, recruitment of transcription-regulating factors via DNA interaction, and control of transcription initiation by TBP.
Gcn5p exhibits histone acetylase activity and consists of 439 amino acids in budding yeast.
