Target Information
NUCB2 was initially identified as a calcium-binding EF-hand motif-containing protein that interacts with Necdin, a growth suppressor expressed primarily in postmitotic neurons. NUCB2 is secreted and cleaved into three major peptide products: Nesfatin-1, Nesfatin-2, and Nesfatin-3. Among these, Nesfatin-1 suppresses food intake in a leptin-independent manner. Studies suggest that NUCB2/Nesfatin-1 plays roles in energy homeostasis and neuroendocrine functions.
