MICAL3는 F-actin의 메티오닌 잔기를 산화시켜 메티오닌-설폭사이드로 전환함으로써 액틴 필라멘트를 탈중합시키고 재중합을 방지하는 모노옥시게네이스입니다. 또한 NADPH 산화효소로 작용하여 H₂O₂를 생성합니다. Rab 효소로서 소포 수송에 관여하며, 분비 소포의 결합 및 융합 과정에 필수적입니다. 세포질분열에 필요하며, 세포 간 교량의 안정화 및 성숙에도 기여합니다. Rab8 및 ERC1의 세포 간 교량으로의 모집을 촉진하여 적절한 세포 분리(abscission)에 관여합니다.
